Groote Post Wines & De Oude Kraal Cuisine
It was an evening of excellence – food, wine & company.
Marie Lombard prepared a stellar menu with each dish specially crafted to suit each wine. Nick Pentz of Groote Post shared some of his family’s history and told
us more about the wines that we were tasting.
We had Asparagus bava rois, rooibos smoked slivers of salmon with rocket, leek chips and asparagus-soya foam salad to accentuate the herbaceousness of the Groote Post Sauvignon Blanc to start the evening’s meal.
The unwooded Chardonnay was a light wine and Marie made a Thai influence Tom Yum Goong broth with chicken meatballs, tortellini, fresh coriander and slivers of black truffle.
Grilled Kingklip with a gazpacho jelly, lemon-caper sauce , olive and vine tomatoes were partnered with the Riesling.
A goats milk, feta tart with granadilla yogurt ice cream introduced the Old Man’s Red Blend.
Main course was Merino leg of lamb with a thyme crust and Matured Kudu loin wrapped in bacon with farm style vegetables and guests had the opportunity to compare both dishes with the Merlot and Shiraz.
Dessert was a fun affair with a white chocolate sambucca mousse with litchi and a feast for the palate as well as the eyes.
